AI model
Your bot needs a provider and a model before it can answer anyone. The AI model card shows a Required badge until you set them.
The card lists four fields: your Mode (whether AI usage is billed as AI credits or through your own key), your Provider, your Model, and whether an API key is stored.
Providers
| Provider | Models | Key starts with | Get a key |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moonshot AI | Kimi | sk- | platform.moonshot.ai |
| Anthropic | Claude | sk-ant- | console.anthropic.com |
| OpenAI | GPT | sk- | platform.openai.com |
| Google Gemini | Gemini | AIza | aistudio.google.com |
We recommend Moonshot AI. Its recommended model gives the best balance of answer quality, speed, and cost for the kind of work a bot like this does.
Each provider offers several models, from fast and cheap through to the strongest option for complex work. One model per provider carries a Recommended badge, and it is selected for you when you switch providers.
Choosing a provider and model
- On the dashboard, select Change AI model (or Set AI model if you have not configured one yet).
- Select a provider.
- Select a model.
- Enter an API key if the dialog asks for one. It only asks when it has to, as described in When your API key is needed.
- Select Save.
The card reads Configuring while the change is applied to your running server, then confirms. Your bot picks it up without a restart.
When your API key is needed
You are asked for a key in two cases: when no key is stored for your server yet, and when you switch to a different provider. Changing only the model reuses the key you already gave us, and the dialog says so.
If you bought AI credits, no API key is involved at all. We hold the provider relationship and bill your allowance.
Models that come and go
The model list is not fixed in the app. We update it as providers ship and retire models, so the picker can change without you doing anything.
- A model you are running that is no longer offered stays in the list, marked Retired, so you can see what you are on. Pick another one to move off it.
- If the list cannot be loaded, the picker shows Couldn't load the model list with a Retry button, and saving stays disabled until it loads. Try again in a moment, and contact us if it persists.
