Backups

A backup is a snapshot of your whole server. We take one every day on the Pro and Elite plans, and Elite adds backups you take yourself.

On the Core plan the Backups page shows an upgrade prompt instead of the list.

Backup types

Each row shows its status: Pending, In progress, Completed, or Failed. Select Refresh to update the list.

Your first automated backup shows up after the next scheduled run, so a new server has an empty list for a while.

Creating a manual backup

Manual backups are an Elite feature, and you can hold three at a time. The counter next to the button reads how many slots you have used.

1. Go to Backups.
2. Select Create backup.
3. Select Refresh to watch it move from Pending to Completed. The list does not update on its own.

Manual backups need a running server. If yours is restarting, degraded, or mid-provision, Create backup returns "Server is not active". Get it back to Healthy first, or use the most recent automated backup as your restore point.

With all three slots taken, the button is disabled. Delete one to free a slot. A Failed backup does not hold a slot, so you can try again. One stuck in Pending or In progress does hold a slot and has no delete action, so contact us to release it.

Deleting a manual backup

Select the trash icon on a completed manual backup and confirm. Only Completed manual backups can be deleted. Automated backups have no delete action, and expire on their own after 7 days.

Restoring a backup

1. Go to Backups.
2. Find the backup you want. Only Completed backups can be restored.
3. Select Restore on that row and confirm.

Your server is briefly unavailable while the restore runs. It comes back in the state it was in when that backup was taken.

Restores are available on Pro and Elite, for automated and manual backups alike.
